Octagon Cycling Club is a friendly local cycling club based in Ely. Formed in 2009, we are a mixed ability social group of riders......our group boasts a couple of ex-pro racers, ladies, complete novices, newbies, charity cyclists, mechanics, pub riders, tri-athletes, mountain bikers, and just about anybody who enjoys getting on a road bike.
We meet Saturday and Sunday mornings for long rides (30 to 80 miles) at varying speeds between 17 & 24+ mph depending on terrain & weather.
New to cycling ?
We occasionally run Newbie rides. On these rides experienced riders will guide you through the basics of group riding & endurance rides, normally maintaining a steady easy pace of 12-14 mph. Please email/ call or check our Facebook page for Newbie announcements.
Unsure about group riding? Read our Etiquette guide
We also meet Thursday evenings during the summer for 1 hour team "Thrash" sprint training rides.
Our club has raised funds for charity. In the past we have raised thousands of pounds for local good causes such as East Anglian Air Ambulance and Ely Foodbank. Most recently we raised over £14,000 for charity by riding 200 miles in 1 day for East Anglia Air Ambulance and Beads Of Courage.
So, if you're caught up in the tide of new found cycling in the Cambridgeshire area contact us....... If that doesn't entice you: We're very social, so most of our rides stop for coffee, cake and/or a bacon roll or two....Come say Hi !
Octagon Cycling Club is affiliated to CTC
New members are always welcome....There's no joining fee or subscription. No commitment just the pleasure of riding a road bike on quiet Fenland roads with friends plus quite a bit of light banter......
We always aim to stay together & no rider is left behind.....
We meet at Ely cannon, outside the cathedral on Saturdays & Sundays at 9am, aiming to be back for lunch. We often stop for a break, or else meet back in Ely for coffee/cake.
We share our rides on our Strava club group. This group is for Strava members only. Please request membership through Strava or email should you wish to join this group.
You can see some of our favourite rides at our Garmin Connect club page. Routes can be loaded straight onto your device. Only members can get admin status to up/download routes.
